Take a thrilling ride down one of Costa Rica’s finest rivers.
Costa Rica. Costa Rica. It’s one of our favourite places in Central America. And there’s nothing like a white water run, whilst surrounded by beautiful scenery and crystal clear water. In addition the equipment and food is first class, the pilots are extremely competent and the picnic food is delicious. But more importantly you’ll get the chance to ride Class III and IV rapids!
On day one of this exciting trip you’ll need to drive 3.5 hours through Costa Rica’s centre to get to the Pacuare River, which forges through one of the country’s most impressive canyons, and cuts across an area of total natural wildness!
When you get to the river itself you’ll notice that the rapids are more or less suitable for beginners and experienced rafters alike, but not for the kids. There is plenty of calm water for you to enjoy in-between head smushing rapids though, in which you can sit back and enjoy the surrounding forest and it’s wildlife; herons, blue morpho butterflies, and monkeys are all common sights. And you don’t have to leave them behind- you can camp on the riverbank right next to them.
On day 2 you’ll be popped in the river nice and early, so that you are almost entirely alone of the river for the first part of the day! You will be rafting for about four hours on this exhilarating trip that comprises many, many more rapids, side hikes and awesome canyon scenery. You’ll begin the two-hour return journey to San Jose mid-afternoon. This can be done as a full trip.
