Tackle the neglected High Tatra Mountains in this exciting adventure.

At Big Earth we think Eastern Europe is a sadly neglected holiday destination among adventurers, and particularly among trekkers. The more famous routes of Switzerland in Europe, and even treks like the Inca Trail in Peru are more popular. Now, we’re not going to attempt to say that these adventures aren’t great, they are, they will give you memories to last a life time, we are just saying that Easter Europe has some fantastic places to explore too, not least the High Tatra Mountains on the border of Poland and Slovakia.

The Tatras, the highest range of the Carpathian Mountains, with 25 summits which are above 2,500 metres are a haven for trekkers. The classical Alpine landscape and excellent trails in good condition coupled with comfortable and scenic refuges makes this the perfect area for mountain walking.

Recommend starting your trek from the Plish mountain town os Zakopane and crossing into Slovakia to trek among the imposing limestone peaks of the Bielskie Tatra. Starting a gruelling uphill section the highest point of this trek the summit of Rysy, Poland’s highest peak. Following this you head down the slopes again into the valley of the ‘Polish Five Lakes’. After all this walking we recommend spending a few days in Krakow, an amazing city which is the perfect finish to an introduction to Europe’s newest trekking destination.
