The Dragonboat Cup
About this Adventure
Take part in this authentic boat race, that originally came from China.
Austria is known for many things, but not necessarily it’s sporting enthusiasm. Well we’re here to prove the sceptics wrong with a competition which is not only a great deal of fun, but considerably difficult.
The Dragon Boat race originally comes from China, but are now also enjoying an increasing popularity across the world, and in particular Austria. And the reason for this is simple- anyone can be there, and anyone can train to be part of the sport. It is a little complicated to learn, which simply adds to the challenge, by making any competitor serious about the sport have to undergo a little gruelling training to prepare. Another important aspect of Dragon Boating is teamwork; a team that is perfectly in symphony with each other have a much greater chance of winning up against a more talented and strong team that is working individually.
A little more information on the actual sport then? Basically your crew consists 20 paddlers, which must have at least six women included, as well as one drummer and one steersman, who will be given to you by the race organisers in Austria. You will also need replacements in case of on boat injuries, or someone tiring during the race. (Throw them overboard we say.) In short this is a very fast and dynamic sport; for example, a track of 250 metres would take a Dragon Boat 1 minute to navigate. So all you have is one minute to show the world what you can do. Have at it kids!
The sport is free to watch, but costs €990 to compete per team.
