Take part in the tradition Scottish games so important to Scotland’s heritage.

There’s nothing that stirs the blood like a bit of competition is there? Well why not take part in the Loch Lomond Highland Games?

The games are situated at the southern end of Loch Lomond in the middle of the quiet village of Balloch. They were created in July 1967 by a group of local businessmen who were anxious to promote the area and restore its popularity with local people and tourists alike. And it certainly worked. In those early days the major challenge of the competition was to raise £500 to run the event in the hope that enough competitors would want to take part and enough people would be interested in watching!

Since that first year, the Games have proved so popular that they have become a running event, happening once a year in July.
The Games are now numbered amongst the top three Highland Games events in the country, with about 10,000 to 15,000 visitors coming as spectators of participants each year.

The Games are super traditional, and have now over £15,000 in prize money to give away, as well as trophies for local and open events.
The different sport categories are separated into ones in which only professionally known athletes can take part, and ones open to all visitors. The former include the Heavyweight Championship, The 80 Metres Running Championship, The Backhold/Cumberland Style Wrestling British Championship, and the Pipe Band and Drum Majors Competition. The events open to all local people and tourists include Highland Dancing, Solo Piping, Track Events, Cycling, a Triathlon and Tug o’ War.
