Days 1-2 Vienna
Embark on a walking tour of Vienna, passing grand buildings and parks dotted with monuments to famous composers and historical figures. In free time, why not see the striking Hofburg Palace, the Leopold Museum or seek out exceptional city views on the Prater Ferris Wheel.

Days 3-4 Hallstatt
Travel by train to Hallstatt, an alpine-postcard village, clinging to a misty lake and hemmed by impressive mountains. Why not delve into local history at the macabre bone house, join an ice cave excursion or see rows of skulls decorated with ivy or rose garlands at the 12th-century St Michael’s Chapel.

Days 5-6 Austrian Alps
Stop to admire Baroque architecture in Salzburg and, if time permits, visit the birthplace of Mozart and the enormous Hohensalzburg Fortress. Then, travel by train to Innsbruck and marvel at the scenic wonderland that is the Austrian Alps. Conquer powdery slopes or ice skate in the winter season, or hike and bike during summer. Spend evenings making the most of the lively bar and restaurant scene.

Day 7-8 Hohenschwangau
Venture along a scenic road to a city brimming with classic Bavarian charm. Be awed by the magical spires of the Neuschwanstein Castle and perhaps head inside to see the extravagant master boudoir, which took carpenters almost five years to complete to the king’s satisfaction.

Days 9-10 Munich
Get swept up in the tide of energy emanating from the streets of Munich. Mosey through fascinating museums and art galleries, head out to the sweeping Englischer Garten to watch locals enjoying the great outdoors or raise a frothy stein in
a beer hall.

Days 11-12 Berlin
Experience how history and ultra-modernity collide in Berlin. Check out the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and the remains of the Berlin Wall on a walking tour. Afterwards, make like the locals do and skate or sled at Potsdamer Platz, visit hip galleries, admire edgy street art or sample the heaving nightlife Berlin is famous for.

Day 13 Dresden
Head into the state of Saxony, the birthplace of the German language, to Dresden. While here, perhaps enjoy a stroll along the fertile banks of the Elbe River.

Days 14-15 Prague
Be enthralled by castles and cathedrals that make Prague so distinctive. Wander along Charles Bridge and through the Jewish Quarter, perhaps shopping for Bohemia crystal before the journey ends.
