Explore the beautiful sights and hidden spots of this wonderful country.

So, this is an epic adventure isn’t it? And we all like one of those. To begin with you’ll fly overnight to Addis Abada, and spend your first proper day exploring the city. Addis Abada has a lot of sights to take in including the National Museum, the Church of the Holy Trinity, and the Menelik Mausoleum. (Oooohh spooky.)

On day three of the trip you’ll take a spectacular flight to Bahar Dar, and gaze from the air at the beautiful Ethiopian plateau, and even the source of the Blue Nile. Once in Bahar Dar you’ll be able to enjoy the birdlife in the area, or take an excursion by boat to visit some of the hidden monasteries.

Day four is spent visiting Tississat Falls, located about thirty kilometres from Lake Tana, and later on in the day you may choose to walk around the falls, or maybe visit the local market, and watch the traditional boats; the Tankwa-a which are made of bundled papyrus. Day five will be spent in Gondar, which is the former capital of Ethiopia and chock-a-block full of castles, which were built in the 17th and 18th century by several generations of Ethiopia’s kings.

Day six is spent in the Simien Mountains where you will explore the highland plateau, which is capped by a dramatic skyline of jagged volcanic plugs and split by deep gorges and gullies. On a good day the views from here are sensational!

Other highlights of the trip include exploring the fabled city of Axum via the lowlands of the Simien Mountains, and even visiting the ruined palace of the Queen of Sheba, taking a short flight to Lalibela and visiting the rockhewn churches, riding mules to Ashetan Maryam, a town that was built on a ridge which provides stunning views over the surrounding countryside, travelling south to Lake Abiata-Shala National Park, a region that is home to the Oromo people, farmers and cattle herders, and the Grants gazelle, visiting Wendo Genet, a hot springs resort within the remains of the original Ethiopian forest. A final high point is visiting the freshwater Lake Awassa, where a rich variety of plankton and fish are situated.

Phew! This trip costs £1,899 for fifteen days. So, to book and for more information visit the Adventure Company, link found below.
