Explore the teeming wildlife of one of Africa’s most highly populated nature reserves

Botswana’s Okavango Delta is home to an enormous selection of Africa’s wildlife, and this is their natural habitat, they are in charge, and if they feel the need they’ll show you it too. The delta is the world’s largest inland delta; the river flows down from the Angolan highlands but never reaches the sea.

The animals of Africa are drawn to the delta because of it’s water and plentiful food making it one of the best places in the world to spot the species we are so familiar with from textbooks and David Attenborough documentaries. If you’re lucky you can spot lions, elephants, hippo, leopards, giraffes, in fact all the amazing animals in this amazing continent.

The region’s weather varies massively according to season, we think the best time to visit is between June and August when the entire delta is flooded and the animals flock to the abundant water supplies. However, at the same time driving is incredibly difficult so we recommend taking a light aircraft into the delta. Unlike the many safari parks in Africa in the delta there are no fences, it is untamed and real, and can be a very scary, but none-the-less brilliant experience. Explore Travel () offer a wide range of tours to the delta.
