Are you unchallenged by marathons? Well give the Arctic Circle race a shot.

The Greenland Adventure Race is an amazing event that takes place each year. It meanders through the barren, beauty of southern Greenland, and is a gruelling five day event that takes each competitor to the top of the world, and the limits of their ability.

Only the toughest, roughest and baddest should even consider taking part in this event. It’s held every September, and begins with a gentle 20km warm up run over glaciers, before crossing a river of melt water- with a little rappelling thrown in just for fun. The second stage entails a 50km cycle over some of Greenland’s most rugged terrain, and is followed by a mere 43km run through mountain passes, some reaching over a height of 1000 metres. But don’t worry, if your still gagging for adventure there’s still time to kayak in the fjords between the towns of Narsaq and Qaqortoq, along with a little portaging- so you won’t be bored in between events. At the end of the ordeal, ahem, marathon, you need to job 30km to the finish line.

So that’s the skinny. And you’ll certainly be skinnier by the time you complete this. It’s arguably the world’s most arduous fitness tests, but we particularly like it because it also offers you a unique opportunity to explore some of the most spectacular and eerie sights of Greenland. These include glaciers, rivers, mountains and fjords, as well as ancient Norse ruins and strange cultural attractions.

So what are you waiting for- it’s time to start training! For more information, follow the link to the official website below.
