Get ready for a fast-paced tour through the best of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

From oceans teeming with marine life to cloud forests alive with jungle melodies, this pocket of Central America is something of a natural paradise. Whether you’re shopping in colonial Antigua, exploring the intricately carved Copan ruins, diving into the crystal blue waters of Honduras’ Roatan Islands or bopping to a rumba beat in Panama City, you’ll get a wonderful insight into Central America during this incredible adventure.

Day 1 Antigua
Walk through cobblestone streets, past heavy carved-wood entrances on an orientation tour of Antigua. Cheap and tasty Guatemalan food can be found in busy markets and street stalls a block west of Parque Central.

Days 2-3 Copan
Journey east through the undulating, dry countryside and cross the border into Honduras. Discover ancient local sites and unique cuisine in Copan and tour the World Heritage listed, intricately detailed Mayan ruins.

Days 4-6 Roatan Island

Travel by ferry from La Ceiba to Honduras’ Roatan Islands and spend two days relaxing under the shade of a coconut palm – or perhaps go scuba diving in the Caribbean.

Day 7 Comayagua
Continue the journey onwards to Comayagua. Mingle with locals in the lush grounds of the Parque Central or explore some classic Honduran cathedrals.

Days 8-9 Granada
Cross the border and arrive at Nicaragua’s oldest city. There’s an abundance of choices for sightseeing in Granada. Cruise along Lake Nicaragua, explore markets and museums or enjoy a tour to Mombacho or Masaya Volcano National Parks. In the evenings, stroll Granada’s streets and talk with locals who chat to each other across the street from their open-front living rooms.

Days 10-11 Ometepe Island
Keep eyes peeled for the world’s only freshwater sharks in Lake Nicaragua on the journey across to Ometepe Island. Ometepe boasts twin volcanoes, lush tropical forests and plenty of wildlife. Perhaps embark on a solid hike up one of the impressive volcano faces.

Days 12-13 Monteverde
Travel further south to Costa Rica and arrive into a mountainside eco-haven. Choose to explore the famous Monteverde cloud forest by foot, horse, mountain bike or for the dare-devils, fly along an exhilarating zip line over the rainforest canopy.

Days 14-15 La Fortuna/ Arenal Volcano National Park
From La Fortuna, explore the forest surrounds or tackle a range of activities including whitewater rapids on Lake Arenal. See the majestic Arenal Volcano where flowing lava and incandescent rocks make for stunning night viewing. Perhaps visit the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge or lie back and have a good long soak in La Fortuna hot springs.

Days 16-17 San Jose
Join San Jose locals milling around the lively Mercado Central, chow down on some super-cheap Costa Rican food or head out for a spot of shopping.

Days 18-20 Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui
Catch a local bus to exotic Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. Join an optional visit to Cahuita National Park to view weird and wonderful wildlife. Sloths, toucans, kingfishers, snakes and howler monkeys all coexist in this protected area. Or maybe enjoy a relaxing rendezvous with a book, soaking up the tranquil Sarapiqui vibe.

Days 21-23 Isla Bastimentos
Cross the border into Panama. Enjoy the slow pace of laidback Bocas del Toro – a beach haven that has resisted over-development to retain its small-town charm. This tropical jungle region is gifted with coral islands and beautiful beaches so use free time to snorkel or swim in clear, blue waters. Divers will appreciate the underwater beauty on offer and surfers can take on the renowned Bocas del Toro waves.

Days 24-25 Boquete

Journey to Boquete to soak up the fresh air and pristine beauty of this peaceful mountain town. Why not visit a local coffee plantation for an insight into coffee production? Or choose from a host of optional Boquete outdoor activities.

Days 26-27 Santa Catalina
Travel to the remote fishing village of Santa Catalina. Surf on unspoilt, world-class beaches, enjoy a spot of fishing or scuba diving or simply load up on relaxation time.

Days 28-29 Panama City
Ride to Panama City on a local bus. Join an optional excursion to view one of the world’s greatest engineering marvels, the Panama Canal, or visit some of the many Panama City attractions.
