Become a travelling detective in this exciting adventure across Bolivia.

There’s something uncontrollably intriguing about the lives of outlaws. They may commit crimes, but the idea of being on the run has been so romanticised by books and movies that it has become engrained in our mind. For anyone who wants to learn more about an outlaw and follow in their footsteps we recommend the story of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, not only is a great story, surrounded by mystery and misinformation, but they are characters we are familiar with from the film based on their lives.

We recommend getting to your starting point of Tupiza by bus, in South America the whole process is raised to an almost sacred rite, women call out names of destinations like religious incantations. Of course they also provide a hugely cost-effective means of transport.

From Tupiza, where the outlaws lived towards the end of their lives,  we moved onto San Vincente where the story ends. A gunfight with some soldiers ensued and Butch and Sundance were both killed along with one of the soldiers, the exact details of that night will never be known, but that mystery is just one more factor in what makes this pair such fascinating individuals.

We would recommend this trip to anyone, even if they don’t have an interest in the outlaws, the desolate countryside is both beautiful and incredibly evocative, you certainly realise the life of Butch and Sundance wasn’t as glamorous as the films would have you believe. Tupiza Tours are the best people to help with your outlaw tour and also accommodation.
