One of the advantages of having your own transport in a country is the ability to really explore, rather than being forced to follow the well-worn backpacker route. You can get stuck into the places where a normal tourist would never see, and that, for us, is the essence of travel, talking to people and getting a real understanding of the country and its culture.
Beyond the amazing Angkor Wat and the capital Phnom Penh, Cambodia is only just starting to open up to tourists, obviously during the horrors of the rule of the Khmer Rouge the country was closed. This means much of the country remains untouched my the tourism trade, the McDonalds and Starbucks are yet to takeover every town and you will have a truly, genuinely unique experience.
After renting your bikes, either yourself or as part of a group, head off into the country visiting temples, Buddhist monasteries, and then on to Siem Reap. With dugout canoes, river crossings, and the chance to visit remote tribes this is one hell of an adventure. The Bike Shop offers motorcycle tours throughout the whole country starting for around $180 per day.
