We’ve been wondering at Big Earth towers recently whether we can think of a country with so much opportunity for adventure in a small area as Costa Rica and we’re not sure there is. In this country, a fifth of the size of the UK you can snorkel, raft, trek and so much more, it really is an adventurers’ playground.
There are many ways to view this amazing country but we recommend Direct Adventure’s complete adventure. Starting from San Jose the adventure begins with rafting along the Pacuare River a gorgeous river which gives a taste of both rapids to tackle and the amazing biodiversity of the area. A huge amount of wildlife is visible from the river. Big cats have been seen at its edge but so have smaller animals like anteaters, sloths and capuchin and howler monkeys in the trees overlooking it.
Next you have the opportunity to mountain bike around the active Arenal volcano (a definite hair-raising moment) and through the lush forests, stopping to rest at the hot springs heated by the volcano. Further adventures included are horse-riding, a canopy tour in one of the country’s spectacular rainforests. Trekking in the Corcovado National Park and snorkelling in the coastal bays offers yet more chances to see the wildlife that lives in this amazing little country.
